Harold 'Shorty' Hayes

[January 26, 2009]  EMDEN -- Harold E. "Shorty" Hayes, 95, of Emden, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, at 8:45 a.m. at his home.

Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Wednesday at Emden Christian Church. His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the church, with Don Green officiating.

Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery, rural Emden.

Arrangements are by Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Mr. Hayes was a farmer southwest of Emden all his life.

He was born Nov. 29, 1913, in Logan County to Howard and Mary Angeline Floyd Hayes. He married Virginia Bowles on June 12, 1945, at Emden Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife, of Emden; two daughters, Lynette (and Richard) Crane of Fountain Hills, Ariz., and Sheree (and Tom) Dahman of New Holland; and two grandsons, Joshua Crane of Hopkins, Minn., and Dru Dahman of New Holland.

Two sisters and one brother preceded him in death.

He was a member of Emden Christian Church, a charter member of Riverside Rod & Gun Club, and an avid gardener.
