E. Hunter, 82, of Lincoln, died at his home on Saturday, July 4,
2009, surrounded by the love of his family.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Holland Barry and
Bennett Funeral Home. His funeral will be at 11 a.m.
Wednesday at the funeral home, with Pastor Scott Moore
officiating. |
Burial will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery,
Riverton. Mr. Hunter retired from the Logan County
Highway Department after many years of service.
He served in the U.S. Navy on PT Boat 151 in the
Pacific during World War II.
He was born Sept. 1, 1926, in Middletown to
Edward and Helen Rhoades Hunter. He married Beulah
M. Dennison on May 25, 1949, in Lincoln.
He is survived by his wife, of Lincoln; five
children, Dale (and Lynn) Hunter of Lewisville,
Texas, Earlene Lucas of Pekin, William E. Hunter Jr.
of Lincoln, Ruth Ann (and David) Kaesebier of
Broadwell and Tami (and Scott) Moore of Heartland,
Wis.; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one
brother; and four sisters.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, two
sisters and a son-in-law, Lee Lucas.
He was a member of Lincoln Veterans of Foreign
Wars Post 1756 and served as a past post commander
and past district commander. He also was a member of
Middletown American Legion Post 672, Lincoln Eagles
Lodge Post 2978, Lincoln Masonic Lodge 210 and the
40&8 Lodge 985. |
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations
be made to Lincoln VFW Post 1756, 915 Fifth St.,
Lincoln, IL 62656; or to Memorial Home Hospice, 720
N. Bond St., Springfield, IL 62702. Memorial
donations will also be accepted at Holland Barry and
Bennett Funeral Home.
