Everett Howe

[July 28, 2009]  LATHAM -- Everett Ray Howe, 87, of Latham, died Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at 7 a.m. at Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski. Prior to the visitation there will be a Masonic service at 4:30 p.m.

Burial will be in Lake Bank Cemetery, Latham, where military rites will be conducted.

Mr. Howe was retired from Caterpillar.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was born Nov. 28, 1921, in Lake Fork Township, Logan County, to Otis G. and Minnie Miller Howe Sr. He married Eileen L. Smith in Argenta on Nov. 27, 1948, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 13, 1984. He then married Rosalie Roethe in Latham on Oct. 10, 1986.

He is survived by his wife, of Latham; one son, Randall (and Wendy) Howe of Charlotte, N.C.; two daughters, Linda (and Larry) Roberts of Corona del Mar, Calif., and Donna (and Michael) Altherr of Decatur; two stepdaughters, Connie (and Michael) Smith of Shannon and Kathy (and Ron) Holdman of Bonne Terre, Mo.; two brothers, Don (and Betty) Howe of Warrensburg and Otis "Pete" Howe of Mount Pulaski; three grandchildren, Megan Denison, Brennan Roberts and Courtney Howe; five stepgrandchildren, Rhett and Reid Roethe and Rodney, Ryan and Ross Holdman; and six step-great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Merle, Eldo T. and John W.; and one stepson, Roger Roethe.

He was a member of Latham United Methodist Church, a life member of the Summit Lodge 431 AF & AM of Warrensburg, a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 99 of Decatur and a member of the American Legion for over 60 years. He was also a member of Ansar Shrine and Consistory of Springfield, Caterpillar Retirees Club, and Logan County Farm Bureau.

For his military service he received the Bronze Star with three Bronze Battle Stars, the American Campaign Medal, European-African Campaign Medal, Victory Medal and Combat Infantry Badge.

Memorials may be made to Latham United Methodist Church, Latham Fire and Rescue, or Cancer Care Specialists of Central Illinois Charitable Fund of Decatur.
