[June 01, 2009]  James L. Leslie, of Lincoln, died Sunday, May 31, 2009, at home, surrounded by the love of his family.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Holland Barry and Bennett Funeral Home. His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Burial will follow in Zion Cemetery.

Mr. Leslie was a barber for many years and owned the Keokuk Street Barber Shop. He then worked for the Illinois Department of Public Health for 37 years.

He was born April 25, 1940, in Greenview to Albert Lee Leslie and Faye Irene Boyer Leslie. He married Carolene Deck on Sept. 11, 1959, in Lincoln.

He is survived by his wife, of Lincoln; two daughters, Kathy (and Bill) Vinyard of Lincoln and Cynthia (and Kevin) Rousey of Marion; two sons, Michael (and Ellen) Leslie of Jacksonville and Mark Leslie of Lincoln; two sisters, Gerlyn (and Mike) Moriearty of Lincoln and Barbara (and Gary) Anderson of Pekin; one brother, Terry (and Linda) Leslie of Lincoln; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He was a member of the Illinois Walking Horse Association, the Indiana Walking Horse Association, and the Tennessee Walking Horse Breeder and Exhibitor Association.

Funeral Directors

He was a good, loving family man who loved his children and grandchildren above all else. He also loved horses, traveling and was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Pittsburg Pirates.

Memorial donations may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society and will be accepted at the funeral home.
