Virginia Kindred

[June 02, 2009]  ATLANTA -- Virginia E. Kindred, 90, of Atlanta, died Monday, June 1, 2009, at 2:20 p.m. at Maple Ridge Care Centre in Lincoln.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday at Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta.

Mrs. Kindred's funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Atlanta United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Rob Roy officiating.

Burial will be in Hieronymus Cemetery, rural Armington.

Mrs. Kindred was employed by Atlanta Public Schools for 15 years and then by Olympia School District 16 for 12 years as a payroll clerk. She retired in 1980.

Virginia Elleanore Jenkins was born Oct. 2, 1918, in Pana, the daughter of Thomas Harold and Sylvia Hildreth Jenkins. She married James Walter Kindred on Jan. 29, 1944, in Atlanta. He preceded her in death on March 16, 1960.

She is survived by one daughter, Virginia Ann Bicknell of Atlanta; one son, William Joseph (and Terra) Kindred of Willow Park, Texas; and three grandchildren, Diane Bicknell of Atlanta, David Kindred of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Brenda Kindred of Willow Park, Texas.

She became a member of the Atlanta United Methodist Church in 1930. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Royal Neighbors of America and a former member of the Atlanta Junior Woman's Club.

She enjoyed fishing, playing cards and bingo, and traveling.

Funeral Director

She graduated from Atlanta High School in 1936.

She will be greatly missed and leaves behind many wonderful memories.

Memorials may be made to the Atlanta United Methodist Church or Atlanta Rescue Squad.
