[March 17, 2009]  CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) -- Phillies star pitcher Cole Hamels has left training camp to fly to Philadelphia to have his left elbow examined by the team physician.

InsuranceHamels says this will set him back by a couple of days in training but that he expects to be just fine by opening day.

Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. agrees, saying he doesn't think the persistent soreness is anything serious. He says it was still a good idea to have Hamels fly to Philadelphia on Monday afternoon so Dr. Michael Ciccotti can check him out.
