Dorothy Marie Lucas

[March 20, 2009]  MOUNT PULASKI -- Dorothy Marie Lucas, 102, of Lincoln, formerly of Mount Pulaski, died Thursday, March 19, 2009, at 11:17 a.m. at the Christian Nursing Home.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Sunday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski. Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with Jeremy Thomason officiating.

Burial will be in Steenbergen Cemetery.

Mrs. Lucas was a retired state of Illinois employee. During World War II she worked for the Illiopolis Ordnance Plant, driving an explosives truck. She also worked for Gov. Adlai Stevenson's office for four years. She was an employee of Lincoln Developmental Center for 22 years.

She was born Dec. 28, 1906, in Pike County, Ind., to Charles and Mamie Willis Shoultz. She married Roy B. Lucas, in Bowling Green, Ky., on Nov. 18, 1928.

She is survived by three sons, Caleb Lee (and Pat) Lucas of Arlington, Texas, Joseph W. (and Frankie J. "Jody") Lucas of Mount Pulaski and R. Leonard (and Martee) Lucas of Alton; two brothers, Charles (and Emma Lou) Shoultz of Francisco, Ind., and Harold (and LaVern) Shoultz of Petersburg, Ind.; one sister, Inez West of Oakland City, Ind.; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter, Mary Ellen Acosta; an infant son, Charles Thomas Lucas; five brothers; and one sister.

Funeral Director

She was a member of Mount Pulaski Christian Church.

She graduated from Oakland City High School and Oakland City College in Indiana.

Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or to the donor's choice.
