National Women's Health Week

[May 02, 2009]  Logan County Department of Public Health will celebrate National Women's Health Week May 10-16 with free screenings for women of any age and free educational classes. The theme for National Women's Health Week 2009 is "It's Your Time."

DonutsDuring the week, families, health organizations, businesses, communities, the government and individuals come together to raise awareness about women's health issues and educate women about simple steps they can take for a longer, healthier and happier life.

Please mark your calendars:

May 4

  • Free educational session, 6 p.m., at the health department, 109 Third St., with Dr. Dan Freesmeier speaking about nutrition.

May 12

  • Free blood sugar, hemoglobin, bone density and blood pressure screenings at the health department, 8 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m.

  • Free blood sugar, hemoglobin and blood pressure screenings on the HOPE Mobile in Chestnut from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and in Mount Pulaski from 1 to 3:30 p.m.

  • Jan Dickerson, fitness director at Fitness Balance, will conduct a free exercise class at the health department at 4:30 p.m. and will also speak about the benefits of exercise for cardiovascular health.

May 13

  • Free blood sugar, hemoglobin, bone density and blood pressure screenings at the health department, 8 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m.

  • Free blood sugar, hemoglobin and blood pressure screenings on the HOPE Mobile in New Holland from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and in Atlanta from 1 to 3:30 p.m.

No appointments are necessary for screenings. Women who take advantage of the educational classes and free screenings will also receive a bag of information and have a chance to register for door prizes.
