William Marvel

[November 20, 2009]  WAYNESVILLE -- William E. Marvel, 96, of Waynesville, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, at 6:50 p.m. at Manor Care of Clinton.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta, with Pastor Andrew Maxwell officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service time at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Mr. Marvel was a retired farmer.

He was born Oct. 20, 1913, in Waynesville, a son of Charles and Ida Gambrel Marvel. He married Susanabelle Irvine on Feb. 20, 1938, in Lincoln.

He is survived by his wife, Sue, of 71 years; two sons, Larry (and Charlotte) Marvel of Kenney and Charles (and Linda) Marvel of Waynesville; four sisters, Leona Bicknell of Atlanta, Ada Kindred of Atlanta, Imogene Graham of Saybrook and Wanda Zurkhammer of Lincoln; five grandchildren, Jeff Marvel, Susan Reynolds, Richard Marvel, Alissa Grant and Craig Marvel; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Wayne Marvel; one sister, Charlene Hunting; and one grandson, Ken Marvel.

He was a member of the Waynesville United Methodist Church. He was a past master and life member of DeWitt Masonic Lodge.

Memorials may be made to the Waynesville United Methodist Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
