John Hayter

[September 28, 2009]  ATLANTA -- John William Hayter, 77, of Atlanta, died Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, at 1:10 p.m. at ManorCare Health Services in Normal.

His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta. Visitation will be from noon until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

His graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Atlanta Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted.

Mr. Hayter was an over-the-road truck driver for many years. He also was a retired barber and had shops in Armington, Chestnut and Clinton.

He was born July 15, 1932, in Atlanta to John Walter and Rhoda Shelton Hayter. He married Clara Mae Beck in April 1954. She preceded him in death on April 10, 1967.

He is survived by his children, Jackie Beck and Sue Burroughs, both of Bloomington, Jeannie (and Dennis) Rexroat of Minonk and Jody Lee (and Beth) Hayter of Mammoth Springs, Ark., a son-in-law, Wayne Burroughs of Bloomington; grandchildren Bryson Hayter, Christina Harmons, Mystia Stephen, Holly Hayter, Amy Rexroat, Jamie Reynolds, Justin Bone Hayter, Bobby Clark, J.J. Hayter, Brian Clark, Brianna Clark and Corey Fulk; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one son, John Wayne Hayter, and two brothers, Bob Hayter and Russell Hayter.

He was an avid Cardinal fan and enjoyed NASCAR racing.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
