Jewel Cook

[April 03, 2010]  ATLANTA -- Mr. Jewel N. Cook, 79, of Atlanta, died Saturday, April 3, 2010, at 1:10 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

His funeral will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta, with David Harmon officiating. Visitation will be from 1 until 3 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Atlanta Cemetery.

Mr. Cook retired from Saint-Gobain Containers after 17 years of service in the maintenance department.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

He was born Oct. 31, 1930, in Lincoln. His parents were Icem and Perlina Cook. He married Karen Hill on Dec. 11, 1964, in Pittsfield.

He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Anita (and Fred) Pyle of Champaign; one son, Jason (and Anne) Cook of Bloomington; two grandchildren, Erik Pyle and Jacqueline Cook; one great-grandson, Devin Pyle; one brother, Icem Hillard Cook of Atlanta; and one sister, Joan Lowery of Tucson, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.

He graduated from Atlanta High School in 1948.  

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Research.
