Controversial issues: As a community we need to be able to talk openly about matters that affect the quality of our lives. The most effective and least offensive manner to get your point across is to stick to the issue and refrain from commenting on another person's opinion. Letters that deviate from focusing on the issue may be rejected or edited and marked as such. . Dear Editor: The 2010 census is under way, and as an organization that is directly impacted by the results, Community Action would like to encourage everyone to fill out their census form. Community Action is a private, nonprofit organization that provides critical services to low-income and senior residents and families in DeWitt, Fulton, Logan, Mason, Menard and Piatt counties. Some of the funds we use to operate our programs are federal and state dollars. The amount we have access to is based on the populations we serve. An accurate census is critical. For the next 10 years, the funds we receive will be based on the 2010 census results, and the services we provide will be affected. If you haven't filled out your census survey yet, please do so today! The 2010 census only takes 10 minutes to fill out. By filling out the census, you will help agencies like Community Action provide necessary services to your friends and neighbors.
