[April 29, 2010]  Doris Spencer was named employee of the month for April at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital for being a helpful employee who makes the hospital a "great place to work."

"We think Doris deserves to be recognized as the employee of the month because she is such a dependable and reliable employee," said co-workers Amanda Hutchison and Ama Wyles, who nominated her for the honor. "Doris is always here, never calls off and stays over when needed. She makes our job easier due to her knowledge of this job. She always knows just where to find any type of record and is always willing to help."

Spencer has worked at ALMH for 36 years, most of it in her current department, medical records. Much of her training has been on-the-job. She said her duties are keeping track of paperwork, scanning documents in the computer, answering calls, handling requests for patient records and getting charts prepared for physicians.

"It's very interesting," she said of her profession. "I have learned a lot of medical terms and procedures, dealing with doctors and insurance companies."

A lifelong resident of the area, Spencer said she enjoys more than just the great benefits offered at ALMH. "I've met different and great people and learned a lot about the medical field," she said.

ALMH employs more than 290 in a wide variety of job functions. A different employee is honored each month for their commitment to creating great patient experiences, getting great results and making ALMH a great place to work.
