The 2010 Logan County Fair unofficially kicked off Saturday morning with the 4-H Dog Show.

The show, which traditionally takes place the Saturday before the fair opens, featured six exhibitors this year.

The participants were (pictured left to right): top row: Kamryn Aylesworth, Zak Farris and Abigail Fitzpatrick; bottom row: Amy Howe, Zac Gill and Katie Lynn.

The 4-H program began in the early 1900s as a club-like organization to promote agricultural education in rural America. The four “H’s” in the symbol stand for head, heart, hands and health; the white in the symbol represents purity; and the green signifies growth. In Logan County there are 17 4-H groups that will participate in a variety of exhibits at this year’s fair.

The massive ancient ramparts, with tales of bloody cruelty, torture and the Teutonic Knights, are being used by the modern authorities in Poland to attract international travelers to the region. The medieval warriors who tried to spread Catholicism by the sword are now attracting tourists with cameras and sun cream to watch their show.

Isabelle Stiefvater, 11 years old, of Lincoln won the 10-11 girls' division of the Just for Kids Golf Tournament at Fon du Lac Golf Course in East Peoria on Sunday. She dropped 20 shots from her score in the same tournament last year to shoot a 43 -- three strokes ahead of the second-place finish of 46.
