George Purlee

[August 03, 2010]  LINCOLN -- George E. Purlee, 93, of Lincoln, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2010, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at Holland Barry & Bennett Funeral Home in Lincoln. His funeral will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Zion Cemetery, with military rites at the gravesite.

Mr. Purlee retired from Pittsburg Plate Glass in 1981 after 27 years with the company. He also had a successful television repair business in the area for many years.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

He was born March 11, 1917. His parents were George E. Purlee Sr. and Susie B. Collins. He married Tessie Ruble on Oct. 11, 1946, in Atlanta, and she preceded him in death on May 16, 1996.

He is survived by one brother, Percy Thomas Purlee of Montclair, Calif.; a special niece, Nancy Billington of McLean; 11 other nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, David and Lemuel, and sisters Henrietta Elizabeth "Betty," Verna Rose, Eileen, Claribel and Helen.

He was a member of Lincoln Christian Church.

Funeral Directors

Memorial donations may be made to Memorial Hospice or the Humane Society of Logan County and will be accepted at the funeral home.
