Charles Wilson

[December 03, 2010]  LINCOLN -- Charles K. "Chuck" Wilson, 82, of Lincoln, died Friday, Dec. 3, 2010, at 12:55 a.m. at Heartland Nursing Home, Peoria.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church of Lincoln, with the Rev. Mark Kaley officiating.

Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery, Wapella.

Mr. Wilson was a retired teacher and was also a chemist at Lehn & Fink. He had taught 40 years at Minier and Buffalo-Tri City High School.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1946 to 1949.

He was born June 18, 1928, in Clinton. His parents were Keith Duncan and Leah Stone Wilson. He married Joyce L. Hardesty on Sept. 6, 1954, in Peoria.

He is survived by his wife, of Lincoln; his children, Keith (and Jane) Wilson of Charleston, Laura (and Gary) Hacker of Bartonville, Ellen (and Dan) Dowell of East Peoria, Tim (and Lang) Wilson of Normal, Gretchen (and Rob) Jones of Lincoln and Lesley (and Scott) Cooper of Lincoln; nine grandchildren, Nathan (and Laurie) Hacker, Ted (and Sara) Hacker, Tori (and Josh) Schacht, Sam Wilson, Elizabeth Wilson, Gabrielle Hacker, Nick Jones, Natalya Jones and Michaela Wilson; three great-grandchildren, Kelsi Hacker, Kaleb Hacker and Makinley Schacht; three brothers; and two sisters.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, Clint Dowell; one brother; and one sister.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lincoln, a United Methodist lay leader, a summer camp grandparent, Boy Scout leader of Troops 109 and 102, and a member of Lincoln Lions Club. He volunteered with Little Lambs Day Care, participated in the Walk to Emmaus and was a volunteer missions worker through the church. He was a founding member of the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity.

He was awarded the Silver Beaver Award, the highest award for a Boy Scout troop leader.

He was a 1946 graduate of Lexington High School and a 1954 graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University.

Memorials may be made to the Lincoln-Logan Food Pantry or Habitat for Humanity of Logan County.
