Shelby Helton

[December 04, 2010]  MOUNT PULASKI -- Shelby J. Helton, 72, of Mount Pulaski died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010, at 1:05 p.m. at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.

Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Tuesday at the Mount Pulaski First United Methodist Church. Her funeral will follow at 11 a.m. at the church, with the Rev. Rachel Stockle officiating.

Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski is handling arrangements.

Mrs. Helton was a retired nurse.

She was born May 12, 1938, in Freeport. Her parents were Nevin and Dorothy Nichols Kitzmiller. She married Garth L. Helton on Nov. 24, 1979, in Mount Pulaski.

She is survived by her husband of Mount Pulaski; five children, Scott Ray of Chicago, Deb (and Bill) Millett of Normal, Denise Rivers of Fort Collins, Colo., Marty (and Carol) Spear of Mount Pulaski and Sally Spear of Lincoln; five stepchildren, Cheryl Lee of Decatur, Byron Helton of Mount Pulaski, Michael Pruitt of Oklahoma, Cori Herndon of Quapaw, Okla., and Austin Pruitt of Oklahoma; three brothers, Jay (and Shirley) Kitzmiller of Dixon, Charlie (and Laurel) Kitzmiller of Oregon, Ill., and David Kitzmiller of Fort Collins, Colo.; and three sisters, Ellen (and James) Harrill of LaPorte City, Iowa, Cheryl (Marv) Lundquist of Mount Morris and Alice (and Marv) Leopold of Roscoe; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral Director

She was a member of the Mount Pulaski First United Methodist Church.

She was also a member of the Red Hat Society and an avid supporter of Special Olympics.

In lieu of flowers the family would like memorials made to Logan County Special Olympics or the American Cancer Society.
