For the second year, each ward chose a resident of the ward whom
they feel is an asset to the entire community and presented that
person to Mayor Keith Snyder, who in turn awarded the honorees with
a gift of this year's official city of Lincoln and Main Street
Lincoln Christmas ornament. Ward 1 -- Steve Siltman on behalf
of LCPA
Ward 1 Alderwoman Melody Anderson said that she and co-alderwoman
Stacy Bacon have chosen the Logan County Paramedics as their Ward 1
honorees.
Anderson said she was at home listening to her scanner on Dec.
12, and hearing everything that was going on as a result of a
terrible snowstorm, she was reminded how very much we take for
granted the dedication of our emergency service workers.
Therefore, the Ward 1 honoree was not just one person, but rather
the entire team that makes up the Logan County Paramedics
Association.
She introduced Steve Siltman, who is the manager of the
association. He accepted the mayor's gift on behalf of the entire
organization.
Snyder commented that the city very much appreciates the
paramedics and the services they offer to Lincoln. He also noted the
great teamwork between LCPA and the Lincoln Fire Department and said
that he appreciated all that they do.
Ward 2 -- Chuck Conzo
Alderwoman Kathy Horn spoke for herself and Alderman David
Wilmert in saying that their selection for the Ward 2 honoree was
Chuck Conzo, city treasurer.
Horn noted that Conzo is always doing something for the
community. He's a willing volunteer for whatever is needed, is
involved with the Postville Courthouse, played a huge role in
Heritage Days, and he has taken on the responsibility of city
treasurer.
Snyder added that the entire council appreciates what Conzo does
as the city treasurer, in addition to all that he does for his
community.
Ward 3 -- Bruce Huskins
Ward 3 chose Bruce Huskins as their honoree. Alderwoman Joni
Tibbs said that she and Alderman David Armbrust were proud to honor
Huskins as the creator of the "Miles of Smiles" Route 66 Garage
Sales.
Tibbs noted that Huskins is a visionary who works tirelessly for
the event and is also involved in the restoration of the Civil War
Soldier Monument downtown, serves as a precinct committeeman and can
also be found "right there" whenever anyone needs help.
Snyder commented that anyone who knows Huskins knows he is a hard
worker, always busy.
Ward 4 -- to be announced
Ward 4 Alderman Buzz Busby was unable to attend the Monday
evening meeting. Snyder and Alderman Tom O'Donohue, also
representing Ward 4, said they wanted to wait until Busby could be
present to make the presentation.
O'Donohue said the Ward 4 selection was a person they both felt
was deserving of the honor, especially Busby, and he felt it would
only be right to wait and allow Busby to do the introduction.
That event is tentatively scheduled for the first Monday in
January.

Ward 5 -- Judy Awe
Judy Awe, a lifelong resident of Lincoln and a very active member
of the community, was named by Alderman Jeff Hoinacki and Alderwoman
Marty Neitzel as the Ward 5 honoree.
Awe works in the kitchen at Friendship Manor, is a member of the
First Baptist Church and the Zonta Club, serves as an election
judge, and has in past years been involved in the decorating of the
Christmas tree at the Logan County Courthouse.
Hoinacki said this was just a small list of all the things Awe
does to serve her community, and Ward 5 was honored to name her as
an outstanding citizen.
Snyder also congratulated Awe, saying, "McDonald's has 'billions
and billions served'; Judy could have 'billions and billions of
turkey dinners served.'"
Mayor's choice -- Glenn Shelton and Andy Anderson
Snyder said that he too would like to recognize a couple of
people: the Rev. Glenn Shelton and Andy Anderson.
Shelton and Anderson are the two volunteer parking enforcement
officers for the city of Lincoln.
Snyder said both men have taken the duty very seriously, that he
has seen them out on the streets even in the worst weather, and they
are offering a great service to the community.
Anderson, who was recently elected to serve on the Logan County
Board, was unable to attend the Monday night meeting, but Shelton
was present and accepted the gift, graciously offering everyone best
wishes for a "Merry Christmas" and a very prosperous New Year.
