[February 08, 2010]  City Alderman Nathan Turner died Sunday morning at his home. The 29-year-old city official had undergone a procedure last week to correct an irregular heartbeat.

HardwareHe passed out at his home Sunday morning while preparing breakfast. Paramedics responded to the home and rushed him to the hospital but efforts to revive Turner were not successful.

Turner and his wife, Sarah, recently had a child.

In an e-mail Monday morning, Lincoln Mayor Keith Snyder said:

"The entire City of Lincoln is saddened at Nathan's passing. He was so impressive on so many levels. He was incredibly bright; he was personable; he cared deeply about people and serving them well. He was already making a positive mark on the City as an alderman. More important than that, though, he was terrific at the things that matter most: he was a trusted friend, a good son, a loving husband, and a great dad. That's the legacy we all want to leave, and Nathan left a great one. I ask everyone to keep Sarah, Nathan's parents, and all of his family and friends in their prayers."

Turner has served humanitarian efforts across the globe and was sworn in as alderman for the city of Lincoln on May 1, 2009. (Read about his history.)
