[February 11, 2010]  LINCOLN -- Vern Brown, 89, of Lincoln, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010, at his home.

There will be private family services.

Holland Barry & Bennett Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Vern was born Nov. 21, 1920, in Saginaw, Mich. He married Evelyn Howerton, and they celebrated 50 years of marriage.

He is survived by his wife, of Lincoln; a stepson, Jim Morris; a stepdaughter, Ellie Young; and several stepgrandchildren.

He was member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He received a Purple Heart for his military service. 

Memorial donations may be made to the military service organization of the donor's choice.
