Marvin Hacker

[January 11, 2010]  LINCOLN -- Marvin Sylvester Hacker, 94, of Lincoln, formerly of Brazoria, Texas, died Friday, Jan. 8, 2010, at 1:10 p.m. at his home.

His funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln, with the Rev. Thomas Shaw officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Hartsburg Union Cemetery, Hartsburg.

Mr. Hacker retired from Ceco steel, where he was general superintendent of concrete forming operations at corporate headquarters in Oakbrook. He also participated in the construction of the Panama Canal.

He served in the U.S. Merchant Marines during World War II.

He was born Nov. 4, 1915, in Liberty County, Big Creek Texas, to Arthur and Louise Froehlick Hacker. He married Lilly L. Edmonston on July 3, 1939, in Sealy, Texas.

He is survived by his wife; one son, Marvin Warren (and Alice) Hacker of Graham, Wash.; one daughter, Maureen Janice "Marty" (and Herman) Wibben of Emden; one sister, Wilmuth (and Edwin) Hamilton of Cold Springs, Texas; six grandchildren, Gregory (and Dawn) Wibben of Sugarland, Texas, Cale Wibben (and Sarah Nowlen) of Emden, Lori (and Cass) Benner of New Holland, Robbyn (and David) Adelsman of Buckley, Wash., Marvin (and Cheri) Hacker of Bonney Lake, Wash., and Clint (and Brandy) Hacker of Lake Tapps, Wash.; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Dan, Bert, Leonard and Roy; and two sisters, Dorothy Crotwell and Thelma Markum.

Funeral Director

Marvin enjoyed fishing, feeding and watching birds, landscaping, and gardening.

Memorials may be made to Friends Of the River San Bernard, Brazoria, Texas (an organization to promote the fish and bird life on the river he loved).
