[July 03, 2010]  NEW YORK (AP) -- More than 60 images by the late fashion photographer Richard Avedon are going on the auction block in the fall. They're estimated to bring up to $6 million.

HardwareAvedon is known for his lively images of couture-attired models leaping and dancing across the page. He is also famous for his minimalist portraits of everyday people, politicians and celebrities, including Malcolm X, Marilyn Monroe and the Beatles.

Christie's auction house says the sale will be in Paris on Nov. 20. Avedon had a lifelong connection to the City of Lights. He covered the collections of Dior and other designers for Harper's Bazaar and Vogue.

The photographs are being sold by the New York-based Avedon Foundation. The proceeds will be used for an endowment to support photographic education.

Avedon died in 2004 at the age of 81.
