Safe rides offered over holiday weekend

[July 02, 2010]  The Alcohol, Tobacco & Other Drugs Task Force of the Healthy Communities Partnership is providing its Safe Ride program on Saturday and Sunday for the Fourth of July weekend.

Hardware"With most businesses recognizing Monday, July 5, as the holiday, we felt it practical to offer Safe Rides home for two nights," said Michelle Bauer, who chairs the task force.

Since October 2009, the Safe Ride program has provided six evenings of reliable transportation: Halloween, Thanksgiving Eve, Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve, Super Bowl Sunday and St. Patrick's Day. Those six nights have produced 90 Safe Rides and only one DUI.

If you have had too much to drink -- and one drink can be too much -- call American Cab of Lincoln at 735-9696 for your ride home, paid for by the Alcohol, Tobacco & Other Drugs Task Force.

You must reside within Lincoln city limits, and you will not be taken to another bar, but you will not be putting yourself or others at risk.
