Room prices are finally rising again industrywide
-- particularly in popular destination cities such as New York and Washington, D.C.
-- but they haven't gotten back to where they were before the recession. Last week, Starwood's rival Marriott International Inc. said its average room rate also climbed by 1.7 percent in North America
-- its first gain in nearly two years. That company said it expects to continue raising rates in the second half of the year and in 2011. Starwood has more than 1,000 properties in 100 countries. Its other brands include W Hotels, St. Regis, Four Points and Aloft. Starwood is based in White Plains, N.Y.
