[June 03, 2010]  ATLANTA -- Gary L. Schafer Jr., 36, of Atlanta, died Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at 1:06 p.m. at his home.

A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln, with Tony Bazen officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Schafer was a mechanic.

He was born Nov. 9, 1973, in Lincoln. His parents were Gary L. Schafer Sr. and Ray Ann Howerton. He married Angelique Vieth in Lincoln, and they were divorced.

He is survived by two sons, Erik and Noah Schafer, both of Emden; his father and stepmother, Gary L. Sr. (and Janet) Schafer of Lincoln; his paternal grandmother, Zona Schafer of Middletown; one brother, Craig Schafer of Lincoln; two stepbrothers, Jay Babbitt of Lincoln and Lance Babbitt of Lincoln; three aunts, Sandy (and Tony) Wieber of Martinsville, Marsha (and Charley) Miller of Middletown and Pam (and David) Matthews of Bloomington; three special cousins, Chuck Miller of Lincoln, Jody Daniels of Lincoln and Adam Shanle of California; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Russell Schafer; one brother, Rusty Austin; and one cousin, Chad Wieber.
