Lincoln survived a game of runs. Chris Ware sat 15 minutes in the
first half due to foul trouble, but Lincoln was able to go in at the
half up 42-33. In a helter-skelter second half, Lincoln saw the lead
extend to 14 points, only to have the margin sink to a two-point
lead with two minutes to go. DeMarius Sumrell was able to get a
leak-out layup to put Lincoln up by four with a minute and a half to
go. With a great defensive stop, Lincoln got stuck in half-court
offense and had to call a timeout. On the ensuing inbounds pass,
Shawnee stole the ball and was about to score, but Kenyon Smith made
a fantastic defensive stop and got a steal to help secure the win
for Lincoln.
"We got a great performance from Kiel Turpin, who stepped up with
23 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks. Marius Sumrell led all
scorers with 26 points, going 12-15 from the line. Kenyon Smith had
12 points with two big shots down the stretch and one being a
3-pointer. A big factor was being able to hit our free throws; after
starting the game 1-6, Lincoln finished the game 26-34," said Lynx
coach Kirk Whiteman.
Lincoln will find out their seed for the national tournament this
week, which will determine the day and time of their first-round
game at the national tournament.
