Virgil Schmidt

[March 26, 2010]  ATLANTA --Virgil D. Schmidt, 88, of Atlanta, died Thursday, March 25, 2010, at 8:15 p.m. at ASTA Care Center in Bloomington.

Visitation will be on Monday evening from 5 until 7 at Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta.

His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lincoln, with Pastor Andrew Nyren officiating.

Burial will be in New Union Cemetery, Lincoln. Military rites will be conducted.

Mr. Schmidt farmed in Eminence Township his entire life.

He served in the U.S. Army.

Virgil Dietrick Schmidt was born Nov. 24, 1921, in Lincoln. His parents were Dietrick A. and Nettie Diersing Schmidt. He married Florence Eleanor Turner on May 23, 1941, in St. Charles, Mo.

He is survived by his wife; one son, Harold Dean (and Phyllis) Schmidt of Lincoln; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and two sisters, Bernice (and Raymond) Turner of Lincoln and Eleanor May (and Frank) House of Sayner, Wis.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lincoln and the American Legion post in Atlanta.

He graduated from Beason High School in 1939.
