[May 04, 2010]  HARTSBURG -- Robert Leon "Bob" Gilbert, 85, of Hartsburg, formerly of Clinton, died Sunday, May 2, 2010, at home, surrounded by his family.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Park Meadows Baptist Church in Lincoln. His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church, with Dr. S.M. Davis officiating.

Burial, with military rites, will follow in Hartsburg Union Cemetery.

Holland Barry & Bennett Funeral Home in Lincoln is handling arrangements.

Bob was born Dec. 30, 1924, in Cisney. His parents were James Leroy Gilbert and Letha McCormick Gilbert. He married Judith A. Whitney-Campbell on April 8, 1978, in Lincoln.

He is survived by his wife, Judy, of Hartsburg; two daughters Vickie Ziemer of New Hampshire and Diane Poole and companion Don Cain of Wapella; four sons, Jeff (and wife Tiffany) Gilbert of Clinton, Jodie Campbell-Gilbert of Hartsburg, Aaron (and wife Jennifer) Campbell of Lincoln and Richard Campbell of Hartsburg; five grandchildren, Megan Poole, Jarad Poole, Logan Gilbert, Hunter Campbell and Gretchen Ziemer; three great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Mary Gilbert of Pekin; and his faithful and loving canine companion, Jemma.

He was also preceded in death two brothers, Elmo and Gene; one daughter, Sherry Ulrey; and three grandchildren.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a combat medic and was wounded in action.

Funeral Directors

He was a member of Park Meadows Baptist Church in Lincoln for many years.
