Robert Smalley

[May 17, 2010]  ATLANTA -- Robert Dale Smalley, 90, of Atlanta, died Saturday, May 15, 2010, at 11:05 p.m. at Maple Ridge Care Centre in Lincoln.

His graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Atlanta Cemetery, with the Rev. Rob Roy officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Atlanta American Legion.

Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Smalley farmed in Atlanta Township.

He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, from Jan. 26, 1942, until Oct. 13, 1945. He was a staff sergeant and tower operator in Africa, Asia and America.

He was born Nov. 24, 1919, in Hopedale, the second son of Harvey James and Grace Irene Baker Smalley.

He is survived by several cousins, including caregivers Duane Smalley and Jean Beyer.

He was preceded in death by his parents and beloved brother Marvyn Smalley.

He was a member of the Atlanta United Methodist Church.

Memorials may be made to the Atlanta Museum.
