Thelma Matson

[November 29, 2010]  LINCOLN -- Thelma June Matson, 77, of Lincoln, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2010, at 12:52 p.m. at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church of Lincoln, with the Rev. Mark Kaley officiating.

Burial will be in Hartsburg Union Cemetery, Hartsburg.

Mrs. Matson retired as head cook at Chester-East Lincoln School and worked in dietary at St. Clara's Manor.

She was born June 4, 1933, in Burton View. Her parents were Frederick and Wilhelmina Engelhorn Wiggers Sr. She married John William Matson on Nov. 22, 1953, in Lincoln.

She is survived by her husband, of Lincoln; three sons, Roger (and Julie) Matson, Rodney (and Tammy) Matson and Randy (and Ann) Matson, all of Lincoln; three daughters, Pamela (and Rex) Mallekoote of Lincoln, Rebecca (and Mike) Geskey of Peoria and Valerie (and Dave) Huffman of Lincoln; one brother, Milton Wiggers of Springfield; one sister, Katharina Goldhammer of Lincoln; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mildred Johnson and an infant sister, Eileen; and three brothers, Frederick Jr., Kendall and Marvin Wiggers.

Funeral Director

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lincoln, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary.

Memorials may be made to the elevator fund at the First United Methodist Church.
