Congratulations, Glenna.

Family and friends will host a celebration of Glenna Smith's 100th birthday at the San Jose United Methodist Church on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. The church is at 600 S. First St. (corner of Linden and First) in San Jose.

Glenna was born in San Jose on Oct. 28, 1910, the daughter of Edgar and Vannie Woll. Glenna graduated from San Jose High School in 1928 and graduated from Illinois State Normal when it was a two-year teacher preparation college. After teaching at several one-room schools, she married Paul Smith on June 9, 1938. He died in March of 1984. Paul farmed about three miles south of San Jose, where Glenna still lives. She was a Sunday school teacher at the First Methodist Church (now SJ United Methodist) of San Jose for many years and is a regular attendee at the church.
