Billy Presswood

[September 09, 2010]  LINCOLN -- Billy L. Presswood, 82, of Lincoln, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, at 8:55 a.m. at St. Clara's Manor.

His graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Zion Cemetery, with Dustin Fulton officiating. American Legion Post 263 will conduct military rites.

There is no visitation.

Mr. Presswood retired from maintenance work with the state of Illinois. He previously had worked at Caterpillar Tractor Co.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1949.

He was born June 10, 1928, at Pinckneyville. His parents were Clifford and Nellie Poole Presswood. He married Joann Humphreys on Oct. 14, 1972, in Carbondale.

He is survived by his wife, of Lincoln; three daughters, Billi-Jo (and Michael) Berger of Lincoln, Jacqueline K. (and Russell) Barringer of Jacksonville and Jeannie Presswood of Fresno, Calif.; two sisters, Bessie Gaston of Pinckneyville and Vivian Shanle of Lincoln; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one son, Errol; two brothers, Loren Rich and Floyd "Toad" Presswood; and two sisters, Loraine Hurly and Genevieve Clampet.

He was retired business manager of Local 895 in Lincoln.

Memorials may be made to the Bill Presswood Fund.
