Wilna Streenz

[September 07, 2010]  MOUNT PULASKI -- Wilna E. Streenz, 87, of Mount Pulaski, died Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010, at 3:08 a.m. at Vonderlieth Living Center.

Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski, with the Rev. Rachel Stockel officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Burial will be in Harristown Cemetery, Harristown.

Mrs. Streenz was employed by State Farm Insurance for two years, at Caterpillar Victory Ordnance in Decatur for 3 1/2 years until its closing, by the state of Illinois for four years with the Conservation Department at the Old Capitol Building, as secretary at Lincoln Community High School for two years and as secretary for Mount Pulaski High School for 15 years before retiring in 1985.

She was born Nov. 15, 1922, at home in Austin Township, Macon County. Her parents were Louis L. and Jessie May Heft Emery. She married Everett Streenz on May 23, 1943, in Austin Township, Macon County.

She is survived by her husband, of Mount Pulaski; one son, Kim L. (and Delores) Streenz of Morton; one daughter, Penni R. (and James) Alexander of Lincoln; six grandchildren, Dayna Streenz of Pekin, Adam Streenz of Morton, Zachary Wachter of Kenosha, Wis., Marlise Wachter of Carbondale, Adam Alexander of Chicago and Jessica Alexander of Dallas, Texas; one great-grandson, Owen Connor Roberts of Pekin; one sister, Reva Culp of Maroa; and a brother-in-law, Ted Streenz Sr. of Bloomington.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Lauren "Bud" Emery; four sisters-in-law; and two brothers-in-law.

She was a member of Mount Pulaski First United Methodist Church, where she served on many committees.

Funeral Director

She was a 50-year member of the Mount Pulaski American Legion Auxiliary, where she served as president for two years and also served as secretary and historian. She served the Logan County Legion Auxiliary as president and secretary. For the PTA at Mount Pulaski Grade School, she served as secretary for one year and president for one year. She had been a member of Junior Woman's Club and served on numerous committees.

She was also a Cub Scout and Brownie leader.

Memorials may be made to the air-conditioning fund at Mount Pulaski First United Methodist Church.
