[April 01, 2011]  LINCOLN -- John William Hunter, 80, of Lincoln, died Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at 11:40 a.m. at his home.

Visitation will be 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

His graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Zion Cemetery, with Jim Barry officiating.

Mr. Hunter retired from Ball-InCon as an IS specialist and worked in maintenance.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps.

He was born on April 13, 1930, in Lincoln. His parents were Darius D. and Anna Moss Hunter. He married Shirley Anderson on July 19, 1968, in Lincoln.

He is survived by his wife, in Lincoln; two daughters, Linda Wilson of Lincoln and Beverly (and Rod) Lewis of Lincoln; four sons, John D. (and Dorell) Hunter of Litchfield, Bill J. (and Kim) Hunter of Westport, Conn., Richard Root of Denver, Colo., and Kenny (and Kay) Root of Durango, Colo.; one sister, Jane Horn of Fort Myers, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers.

He was a member of American Legion Post 263, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Eagles Lodge.

Funeral Director

He was an avid fisherman and hunter and camped for many years at Robin Hood Woods, Shelbyville.

Memorials may be given to American Cancer Society or Memorial Home Hospice.
