Tuesday
evening, Miss Kelsi Ubbenga was crowned the 2011 Miss Logan
County Fair. After an evening of competition, Kelsi stood out
above the rest as the one who should rule in Logan County for
the coming year.
Kelsi is the 18-year-old daughter of Kevin and Gail Ubbenga of
Hartsburg. She is a graduate of Hartsburg-Emden High School and
plans to attend the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana
this fall.

A
peacock on the loose after it escaped from Central Park Zoo stands on
a window ledge above Fifth Avenue in New York City on Tuesday. The zoo
says the peacock poses no danger to anyone. Zookeepers are asking anyone who
spots the peacock "not to follow or harass the bird."

Congratulations to Linda Anne Birnbaum of Lincoln and David
Allen Nowack of Springfield.
The couple were wed June 25 at St. John United Church of Christ in
Lincoln.
Linda is a 2002 graduate of LCHS with a bachelor's degree in psychology from Western
Illinois
University and master's in counseling from the University of Illinois at Springfield. She
is a therapist with Mental Health Centers of Central Illinois. Her parents
are Loren and Karen Birnbaum.
David is a 1995 graduate of Scared Heart-Griffin. He received an associate
degree from
Lincoln Land Community College and is pursuing a bachelor's degree from UIS. He is a supervisor with United Parcel Service. His parents are
Frederick and Linda Nowack.

Pirates during a baseball game in Pittsburgh on Tuesday. Barney was tagged out at the plate by Pirates first baseman Derrek Lee. The Cubs went on to win 10-2, hitting
six homers in the
