Evan
Jodlowski, 16, of Atlanta, was awarded for the best doe in show at the
Illinois State Fair dairy goat junior show Saturday. In doing
so, he had the privilege of participating in the Governor’s Sale
of Champions and Commodities Auction on Agriculture Day on
Tuesday in Springfield. His gallon of goat milk
from his Lamancha doe, Yellobird, brought a record $1,200.
Parker Elvidge, of Auburn, was the winning bidder for the milk.
Evan is the son of Ed and Colleen Jodlowski and is a member of the
Olympia FFA and the Atlanta Town & Country 4-H.

Two
burned out cars stand in a parking area in Berlin, Germany, early Thursday. Berlin police say vandals burned another nine cars overnight, the
latest in a string of arson attacks in the German capital. Police spokesman
Thomas Neuendorf said on n-tv Thursday that authorities believe a single person
or small group is behind the blazes and that more than 100 police personnel are
involved in the investigation.

As
promised, city
street crews
started work
Wednesday,
digging out the
pavement in
front of the
payment drop
boxes on
Kickapoo Street.
While one
crewman ran the
bucket tractor,
tearing up
asphalt and dirt
and dumping it
into a nearby
truck, another
stood at the
sidewalk, waiting
and watching for
vehicles pulling
in to use the
drop boxes or
postal boxes.
When vehicles
did arrive, he
took envelopes and
deposited them
into the boxes
for the drivers.
Once
the area is dug out, a
new driveway
will be
constructed.
According to
Tracy Jackson,
superintendent
of the street
department, this
portion of the
work is expected
to continue
through Friday,
weather
permitting.
