Narola Powell

[August 22, 2011]  NORMAL -- Narola Powell, 80, formerly of Heyworth, died Sunday, Aug. 21, 2011, at 12:12 a.m. at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center in Normal.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home in Bloomington. Her funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Calvert and Metzler, with the Rev. Kurt Flora officiating.

Burial will be in Heyworth Cemetery, Heyworth.

Mrs. Powell had worked for the FBI in Washington, D.C., and later worked for Gailey Eye Clinic in Bloomington.

She was born Aug. 20, 1931, in Atlanta. Her parents were Cleveland and Myrtle L. Nichols McCombs. She married Duane E. "Jack" Powell on Sept. 28, 1952, in Atlanta. He died Aug. 9, 2001.

She is survived by one sister, Naomi Niewold of Loveland, Colo.; five nieces, Charlotte (and Scott) Harrelson of LeRoy, Pam (and Daniel W.) White of Lincoln, Mary Woodland of DeBary, Fla., Sue Lewin of Waimanilo, Hawaii, and Jeanne Bergey of Loveland, Colo.; and one nephew, Ted  (and Janice) Burns of Bellingham, Wash.

She was also preceded in death by five sisters.

Narola was a member of Heyworth Christian Church, Heyworth.

She enjoyed sewing, needlework, reading and flower gardening.

The family thanks the doctors and staff for their care and compassion shown to Narola.

The family suggests memorials be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
