Due to excessive heat and
possible rain, the balloon festival volunteer party has been
moved to the American Legion tonight at 5:30.

centered in Virginia forced evacuations of all the monuments on the National
Mall in Washington and rattled nerves from Georgia to Martha's Vineyard, the

Council.
Coming in at the
beginning and
staying
throughout the
entire meeting,
Maniscalco was
welcomed by
Mayor Keith
Snyder and
invited to say a
few words.
Maniscalco
addressed the
council,
expressing his
pleasure at
becoming a part
of the
development
partnership and
inviting
aldermen to come
to him at any
time with ideas
and opinions. He
said he wants
his office to be
open and
transparent to
the city council
and looks
forward to
working with
them.

his March 30, 2005, photo shows
James Salter in his Bridgehampton, N.Y., home. Salter has won the Rea
Award for the Short Story, a lifetime achievement honor. Rea judges
released a statement Tuesday praising the 86-year-old
Salter as "the most stylish and grave and exact of writers." Salter
will receive $30,000 for the award. It was established in 1986 by
the late philanthropist Michael M. Rea and is now directed by his
wife, Elizabeth Richebourg Rea.
In a Monday photo provided by the
University of Tennessee, Tennessee women's basketball coach Pat Summitt sits next to her son, Tyler Summitt, at her Knoxville, Tenn.,
home. Summitt plans to coach "as long as the good Lord is willing" despite
recently being diagnosed with early onset dementia.
In a statement from Summitt released by the university on Tuesday,
the Hall of Fame coach said she visited with doctors at the Mayo
Clinic in Rochester, Minn., after the 2010-11 basketball
season ended and was diagnosed with early onset
dementia -- Alzheimer's type -- over the summer.
