Evelyn Haggard

[August 25, 2011]  SHERMAN -- Evelyn Teresa Haggard, 83, of Sherman, died Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2011, at Heritage Manor in Springfield.

Her graveside service will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, at 1 p.m. Monday. The Rev. Mark Emmerson will officiate.

Mrs. Haggard lived in Sherman most of her life and worked for 16 years as a nurse in the newborn and OYB area for St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

She was born on Sept. 21, 1927. Her parents were Lena and Thomas DeWitt. She married John A. Haggard Sr. on July 22, 1946.

She is survived by her husband; five sons, Michael (and Ruth) Haggard, David (and Barb) Haggard, Russell (and Tonya) Haggard, Timothy Haggard and John A. (and Lori) Haggard Jr.; three daughters, Marianne Goeringer, Janet Rhodes and Teresa (and Bill) Payne; a daughter-in-law, Sallee Stone Haggard; 40 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rosemarie (and Dean) Summers and Ruth Nonn; one brother, Thomas DeWitt; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, John Samuel Haggard; one grandson, Jeremy Michael Haggard; and two sisters, June Antonacci and Etta May Robison.

Evelyn was a member of the Living Faith Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the American Diabetes Association or to Passages Hospice, 315 N. Prairie St., Bloomington, IL 61701.
