John Gordon

[February 11, 2011]  McLEAN -- John L. Gordon, 92, of McLean, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011, at 7:53 a.m. at St. Clara's Manor in Lincoln.

Visitation will be from 4 until 6 p.m. Sunday at Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta. His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with Mr. Maurice Stribling officiating.

Burial, with military rites, will be in McLean Cemetery.

Mr. Gordon retired from the Funks Grove Grain Co. on March 1, 1980, after 20 years of service. He had also worked on farms, in construction work and was a night watchman for the village of McLean.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

John Leslie Gordon was born on June 22, 1918, in Boyle County, Ky. His parents were Martin Thomas and Gertrude Florence Nevius Gordon.

He is survived by two sisters, Lucy Williams and Elizabeth Daugherty, both of Atlanta; a brother, Rex (and Dorothy) Gordon of McLean; a brother-in-law, Jack Mayberry of Atlanta; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Jim, Claude and Buck Gordon; and three sisters, Grace Spears, Geneva Mayberry and Mildred Loercher.

He was a member of the McLean American Legion Post, Atlanta Veterans of Foreign Wars and 40 & 8 in Bloomington.

Memorials may be made to the McLean Fire Department.
