Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the Delavan
United Methodist Church. His funeral will be at 10
a.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be in Green
Hill Cemetery near San Jose.
Mr. Zimmer worked on the family farm his whole
life, first with his father and later with his two
sons. He was also a seed corn dealer for DeKalb.
Wesley William Zimmer was born in rural Emden on
Dec. 30, 1915. His parents were William James and
Tina West Zimmer. He married Agnes Lydia Miller on
June 15, 1935, in Pekin.
He is survived by his children, Maxine (and
Richard Lolling) of Lincoln, Bill (and Janet) Zimmer
of San Jose, David (and Jayne) Zimmer of Lincoln,
Judy (and Bob) Taylor of Delavan and Carol (and Joe)
Egli of South Pekin; 12 grandchildren; and 25
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife
and a brother, Gerald.
He was a formerly member of the Zion Methodist
Church in Emden and presently a member of the
Delavan United Methodist Church. He served as a
member and president of the church board, as a
member and president of the Methodist Men, and as a
teacher and superintendent of the Sunday school. Wes
and his family were named the Peoria District
Methodist Family of the Year in 1962.
He was a member of the Logan County Farm Bureau
and served as president of the organization for
eight years. He was a member of the Emden Farmers
Grain Co., the Guernsey Breeders Association and the
Emden Kiwanis. He served on the Logan County
Extension Council and the Hartsburg-Emden unit
school board. He was a member of the Abraham Lincoln
Memorial Hospital board of trustees and served as
treasurer for that organization. He was a member of
the Logan County Sheriff's Merit Board.
He bred, milked and showed Guernsey cattle and
served as 4-H dairy superintendent at the Logan
County Fair.
Wes and Agnes traveled extensively for
conferences and conventions concerning the church,
the Farm Bureau and DeKalb seed corn.
His priorities were his home and family, his
church, and his community.
