Lincoln College basketball results

[January 13, 2011]  The Lincoln College men's and women's basketball teams had away games on Wednesday.

LC men

EAST PEORIA -- DeMarius Sumrell had 24 points in the opening of conference play as Lincoln College (14-4, 1-0) defeated Illinois Central College 85-55.

Lincoln dominated from the start to take a 12-6 lead the first eight minutes. Lincoln was able to build a 38-11 lead with three minutes to go in the half, but ICC made an 8-0 run to close out the first half 38-19.

Kiel Turpin had 18 points, five rebounds and three blocks, while Wes Dawson went 5 of 5 from the field and 3 of 3 from the free-throw line to close out with 13 points.

"The game was decided on the defensive end. We were able to turn them over 20 times in the first half and 30 times for the game. Defense wins and that was the story tonight," said Lincoln coach Kirk Whiteman.

LC women

GODFREY -- The Lincoln College women's basketball team opened up conference play with an 85-77 loss to Lewis & Clark (9-8, 1-1).

Tonisha Sanders and Asia Jones led in scoring with 17 and 11 points respectively. Jones also pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.
