Wilbur Baker

[January 21, 2011]  LINCOLN -- Wilbur L. Baker, 80, of Lincoln, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2011, at 4 a.m. at the Christian Nursing Home.

Visitation will be 1-3 p.m. Sunday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln. His funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mark Thompson officiating.

Burial will be in New Union Cemetery, with military rites by Lincoln American Legion Post 263.

Mr. Baker was a retired state trooper. He had worked for Illinois State Police District 9 for 30 years, 1957-1987.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War, 1952-1954.

He was born June 13, 1930, in Hartsburg. His parents were Louis Nicholas and Edith Matilda Schwantz Baker. He married Joanne Arnold in Lincoln on May 8, 1960. She preceded him in death on Aug. 4, 1984. He later married Evalyn McAfee on May 23, 1986, in Springfield.

He is survived by his wife, of Lincoln; two sons, Ron (and Jean) Hall of Lincoln and Randy (and Nettie) Hall of Lincoln; one daughter, Pam (and Dean) Huston of Springfield; six grandchildren, Rachel Hall, Angie Snell, Lisa Webster, Nicole Huston, and Aric and Kevin Monkman; six great-grandchildren, J.D. Snell, Bailey Snell, Justin Boston, Cody Huston, Haylee Huston and Zoey Huston; and one sister, Irma Neil of Jacksonville, Fla.

He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Pat Webster; four sisters, Dorothy Hildabrand, Ruth Gehlbach, Esther Lolling and Louella Kagel; and one grandson, Chad Hall.

Funeral Director

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Lincoln, Lincoln Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion Post 263 and the Fraternal Order of Police.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Disease Association, Christian Nursing Home or the donor's choice.
