Margaret Lanterman

[July 13, 2011]  ELKHART -- Margaret M. Lanterman, 96, of Elkhart, died Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at 8:35 a.m. at St. Clara's Manor in Lincoln.

A funeral Mass for Mrs. Lanterman will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Elkhart. The Rev. Glen Fontana will officiate. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Lincoln.

Peasley Funeral Home in Lincoln is handling arrangements.

Mrs. Lanterman was a retired teacher. She had taught 43 years in the Mount Pulaski-Elkhart School District, with 35 of those years at the Mount Pulaski Grade School.

She was born Dec. 2, 1914, near Elkhart. Her parents were Stephen and Mary Hegarty Tierney. She married Verne F. Lanterman in 1948, and he preceded her in death in 1998.

She is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was the last of her immediate family and was preceded in death by two brothers, Michael and Martin.

She was proud of her Irish heritage, her father and mother having come to the U.S. from County Clare, Ireland.

She was an avid bird-watcher and loved seeing and talking with her former students.

Memorials may be made to her church, St. Patrick's in Elkhart.
