Elwood 'Bud' Laible

[July 19, 2011]  WASHBURN -- Elwood G. "Bud" Laible, 81, of Washburn, died Monday, July 18, 2011, at 8:07 a.m. at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday and a prayer service at 6:45 p.m. at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Additional visitation will be from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Peoria Heights. His funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church, with Father Jeffrey Laible officiating.

Entombment will be at Resurrection Mausoleum in Peoria.

Mr. Laible retired from Caterpillar Tractor Co. in Mossville after 20 years as a tool grinder.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was born Feb. 24, 1930, in Washburn to Samuel and Rosalee Crank Laible. He married Virginia Tiezzi on Oct. 8, 1956, in Peoria.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Father Jeffrey Laible of Lincoln and Terry Laible of Washburn; one daughter, Sherry Laible-White (and Michael) of Pekin; one grandson, Matthew; and two great-grandchildren, Mariah and Matthew Jr.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.

Bud enjoyed collecting knives and traveled the state of Illinois displaying and selling them at knife shows. He loved animals, especially the family dogs.

He attended Bradley University and the University of Illinois.
