Dorothy Colaw

[February 28, 2011]  ATLANTA -- Dorothy Colaw, 90, of Atlanta, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011, at 8:20 p.m. at The Christian Village in Lincoln.

Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta. The Rev. Rob Roy will officiate. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to the service on Thursday.

Burial will be in Atlanta Cemetery.

Mrs. Colaw taught high school math for 27 years, first at Atlanta High School, then for Hittle Township High School and finally for the Olympia school district, from which she retired in 1977.

She was born June 5, 1920, in Morris. Her parents were Leonard and Mable Schreiner Johnson. She married Gerald "Sug" Colaw on July 5, 1944, in Morris, and he preceded her in death on May 6, 2004.

She is survived by two sons, Dale (and Chris) Colaw of Atlanta and Dennis (and Judy) Colaw of Atlanta; four grandchildren, Dee Colaw, Jaci Colaw, Kristie (and Richard) Israel and Scott (and Lori) Colaw; and five great-grandchildren, Ryan, Vince and Wes, Zach and Blaine.

She was a member of the Atlanta United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a past worthy matron. She was also a past member of the Atlanta Ladies Cemetery Association.

She graduated from Illinois State Normal University in 1942 with a bachelor's degree in secondary education.

Memorials may be made to the Atlanta Rescue Squad or the American Diabetes Association.
