Helen Martin

[March 03, 2011]  LINCOLN -- Helen Pauline Martin, 103, of Lincoln, died Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at Lincoln Christian Home.

There will be a public visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln. Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader. Ryan Edgecombe will conduct the service.

Burial will follow in Elkhart Cemetery.

Mrs. Martin and her husband farmed in the Middletown and Elkhart area for many years.

She was born on May 9, 1907, in Elkhart. Her parents were Asa John and Lillian Carson French. She married Harley Martin on March 12, 1928, in Benton. He preceded her in death on May 31, 1976.

She is survived by her grand-nephew, Robert (and Vicki) Broughton of Lincoln; one sister, Alice McKenzie of Springfield; six nieces, Mary Barringer of Springfield, Charlotte Bohn of Elkhart, Carolyn Veronesi of Lincoln, Marilyn Taylor of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., Susan Dove of Riverton and Gladys Bailey of Heath, Ohio; and five nephews, Darrell Payne of Morton, Leon and John Payne of Tampa, Fla., Scott McKenzie of Brunswick, Ohio, and Dan McKenzie of Springfield.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Irene Broughton and Anna Payne Hessner.

Funeral Director

Helen was a member of the Lincoln Christian Church. She was very active in church and community activities in the past.

She was an avid reader and was reading and working Courier crossword puzzles until shortly before her death.

Memorials may be given to Lincoln Christian Village or the donor's choice.
