WAYNESVILLE -- Calvin H. "John" Gaston,
85, of Montrose, formerly of Waynesville, died Wednesday, May 4,
2011, at 12:45 a.m. at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon. |
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday at Waynesville
Christian Church. His funeral will be at 2 p.m.
Saturday at the church, with Dave Taylor
officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery
at Downs.
Arrangements are with Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home
in Atlanta.
Mr. Gaston was a Teamster and worked for Kaluziny
Brothers in Joliet for 38 years.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II,
in the European Theater.
He was born on Jan. 12, 1926, in Waynesville. His
parents were Isaac James and Margaret Jane Jackson
Gaston. He married Mae A. Knupp in February of 1946.
She preceded him in death on Dec. 29, 1996. He then
married Ethel Oakley Zike on Oct. 15, 2000.
He is survived by his wife, of Montrose; one son,
John C. (and Karen) Gaston of Lincoln; two
daughters, Karol Sue Eimer of New Holland and Vicki
A. Gaston of Lincoln; two stepsons, Raymond "Buddy"
Zike of Toledo and Darrel Zike of Montrose; one
brother, Warren "Pid" Gaston of Albion; 16
grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren; and six
great-great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by two daughters,
Nancy A. Gibson and Enza "Penny" Allen; seven
brothers; two sisters; and three grandchildren, Lisa
Jones, Larry David Jones and John Calvin Gaston. |
He was a member of Waynesville American Legion Post
1189 for many years.
