Herman Brooks

[May 09, 2011]  ATLANTA -- Herman W. Brooks, 84, of Atlanta, died Sunday, May 8, 2011, at 11:30 p.m. at Hopedale Nursing Home in Hopedale.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home, with Maurice Stribling officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. Thursday until the service time.

Burial will be in Atlanta Cemetery.

Mr. Brooks had worked as a bricklayer.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II

He was born Dec. 23, 1926, in Dimple, Ky. His parents were Ord and Eliza Austin Brooks. He married Mildred J. "Mickey" Logan on Aug. 27, 1948, in Lincoln. She preceded him in death on March 9, 1986.

He is survived by his children, Connie (and Wayne) Turner of Atlanta, Dan (and Linda) Brooks of Atlanta and Terry (and Carol) Brooks of Atlanta; one brother, Kenneth (and Katie) Brooks of Lincoln; one sister, Edna (and Bill) Gaither of Atlanta; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was also preceded in death by one son, Ronny Brooks; and three brothers, Glenn, Charles and Harold Brooks.

He was a member of Bricklayers Local 19 in Bloomington, Atlanta American Legion Post 341 and the Country-Aire Coffee Club in Atlanta.

Memorials may be made to Atlanta Rescue Squad or an organization of the donor's choice.
