Josh Hackett, a local landscaper, has offered his services and
equipment to begin cutting the sod from the flower bed sites at
Postville Park and then on to Ray White Park. Eventually, he will do
Melrose Park, Allison Park and what is called Sycamore Park, the
triangular park north of All Veterans Park on Union Street. The
next step will be to till and plant the beds and then preen and
mulch them. The group has secured plants for the park flower beds
from the horticulture department at the correctional facility.
The final step will involve finding volunteers to help maintain
the flower beds in the parks.
While the city streets and alleys department has agreed to keep
the beds watered, there will be a need for the continued support of
volunteers to keep them weeded and groomed. From the Ground Up is
hopeful that folks will join in and help make a difference in our
local parks. There will be multiple beds in each park. A single bed
or an entire park can be adopted for the weeding and general
maintenance of the bed.
The group welcomes individuals, friends, families, churches,
groups and organizations to help. The group also can use help in the
tilling, planting, preening and mulching process if anyone is
interested. The weeding and maintaining will begin as the parks are
planted.
The group will keep those interested updated.
